One of the big expenses on any vacation is accommodations... hotels and resorts can just cost so much money. Why not try to arrange a house swap next time you travel? If you live in LA and are looking for a trip to Hawaii, try and find someone taking a trip in the opposite direction and arrange to swap houses instead of spending money on costly hotel rooms. You’ll save money, and have the advantage of having your own kitchen, living room, and other bonuses that homes have and hotels lack. It will work best if you know a traveler or family of travelers in your destination city, but it's not the only way. It might be convoluted to arrange the house swap, but you can always use the Internet to arrange it with strangers. Just make sure you talk to the people who will be staying at your home and try to get a sense if they seem reliable and trustworthy... because nobody wants to get home from vacation only to discover that their flatscreen HDTV has been taken by house swappers with sticky hands. And try to clean your place a bit before you have out of state house swappers... try and make them feel at home and comfortable, and hopefully they will do the same with their home.
