NY:TEEN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING AT BIBLE CAM
Shot 06/28/2011.## A short, but powerful, line of thunderstorms moved through the Mohawk Valley Tuesday night. Before the storm rolled out, lightning struck a bible camp in Rome, sending one teenager to the hospital. The 16 year-old from Cobleskill was at the camp for orientation week, where he planned to work as a lifeguard. Because he is a minor his name is not being released. An emergency responder says the victim was holding onto a metal bar while he was getting out of the shower, the metal bar was a conductor of the electrical current. The lifeguard was not directly struck by a bolt of lightening. Around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night the sixteen-year-old was released from Rome Memorial Hospital, without entry or exit burns. The Executive Director of the Delta Lake Bible Conference Center, Rick Barnard, says the 16 year-old is doing fine, and he plans to continue to lifeguard at the camp which starts on Friday. ##
