Terrorism Charges in Attempted New York Bombing
(Al Jazeera English News Headlines: May 4, 2010) The Pakistani-born U.S. citizen accused of an attempted bombing of Times Square in New York will be charged with an act of terrorism. Faisal Shahzad was taken into custody as he attempted to leave the country for Dubai. Al Jazeera speaks with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in an interview. U.S. envoy George Mitchell has arrived in Israel, hoping to restart the peace process. A major stumbling block remains Israel’s expansion of settlements in East Jerusalem. Greeks continue to protest tough new austerity measures aimed at securing a bailout package for the country's debt-riddled economy. Despite protests and a campaign promise to the contrary, Japan's prime minister has said it will be impossible to completely move the U.S. military base from Okinawa.
