Environmental Filmmaking: The Rising Stars
(Earth Focus: Episode 26) This Earth Focus special features the best work by student filmmakers at the Center for Environmental Filmmaking, School of Communication at American University in Washington DC. Profiled films include: Rebecca Howland’s "The Bay is Your Oyster," which looks at efforts to promote oyster growth on the Chesapeake Bay; "Working with Fire" by Dustin Harrison-Atlas and Danny Ledonne on what it's like inside a controlled burn at Florida's Nokuse Plantation; an excerpt from "On The Fence" by Brian Kelley a film on the life of a former hunter in Botswana who is using art to bring new life to dead wood; "America's Energy Future" by Yi Chen on the potential for renewable energy development in the United States; and "The Struggle for Mt. Nimba" by Kari Barber showing the plight of an isolated group of chimps in Guinea. 1/4/2011
