Deutschlands zweiter nationaler Erdbeobachtungssatellit ist am Montag vom Weltraumbahnhof Baikonur in Kasachstan gestartet. Zusammen mit seinem Zwilling TerraSar-X wird er die komplette Landoberfläche der Erde vermessen. Mit den gewonnenen Daten soll ein weltweit einmaliges, digitales Höhenmodell entstehen, von dem die Wissenschaft in vielerlei Hinsicht profitieren will.
