This hymn does not need much introduction, but I will say that it was written by a man named John Newton. John was at one point in his life the captain of a slave ship and was full of evil, until he heard the preaching of the Gospel. Then,the Lord graciously reached down and saved him and his life was changed completely and if you are wondering exactly what the word "wretch" means, well, it is another word for a person who is filled with wickedness. Also, "Grace" is another word for unmerited favor and if you want to receive this grace, simply confess your sins, trust and believe with your whole heart that Jesus, the only Son of God and the one from whom this grace comes, died on the cross to forgive your sins and rose again from the dead to justify you.  That is, to make you right with God, and accept Him as your personal Savior and Lord.
