Leona Mitchell, Opera Singer
This museum was a dream of opera star Leona Mitchell’s late father, a Pentacostal minister who aspired to create a place that would foster an understanding of diverse cultures, while encouraging others through the story of Leona's success. The Mitchells are of African American and Native American ancestry. A blending of culture that was not uncommon and yet one seldom mentioned in the history books. Here, it's celebrated, even beyond the museum's walls, with cultural events and even a kid's music camp. Originally aired February 24, 2007.
