Many countries have eroded parts of their rainforests to make way for industry or agriculture. Guyana wants to take a different approach, getting industrialized countries to pay for the protection of the rainforest. Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) is a revolutionary idea. The nation's government is attempting to have the economic value of its rainforests recognized internationally. The idea is that the international community would pay Guyana to stop trees being chopped down to make way for mines, for example. Guyana is a country rich in raw materials.
