USED CAR TIPS #2
Running a Vehicle History Report on the used car you are considering can save you from potential problems... but what exactly does a report check? When you run a Vehicle History Check using the car’s VIN, it will give you the actual odometer mileage on the car, and reveal to you if the numbers on the odometer have been rolled back by the seller. The report should also show if the car has ever been in a major accident, what damage was done and what repairs had to made... but only if the accident was reported. You will also find out if the used vehicle was ever flooded or declared totaled, and if it has ever been sold at an auction or has a salvage title. If it was auctioned, you will find out what kind of auction and under what circumstances. You will also find out the number of previous owners of the car and the dates each owner purchased and drove the car, if it was ever leased, used as a rental or fleet car, or even if it was a government vehicle. Finally, you will be able to find out when the dealer or private seller took delivery of the used car... which can help you haggle for a lower price if they have been trying to sell it for awhile. Running a history report will give you an advantage in getting a good price for the used car... and will help ensure you don't have problems with it in the future.
