General Assembly Wrap Up
As Virginia wrapped up a contentious session, Governor Gilmore stubbornly held to his 70% car tax cut. Not only did Democrats and Republicans disagree, but Republican legislators and the Governor were at loggerheads. The Northern Virginia delegation fought for transportation and educational allocations, but the car tax proposal overshadowed these priorities. With Republicans in control of redistricting, Democrats are now pitted against each other for the same seats. What are the regional consequences for redistricting? Are new state house districts a case of gender gerrymandering? Should Virginia undertake a comprehensive review of its tax structure? From the Series:Capitol Region Roundtable
