Minorities in Sports
If you take a look at the professional football or basketball teams in this country, you will note that minorities make up many of the athletes in these two sports. In fact, 65 percent of professional football players and 77 percent of professional basketball players are African American. But, when you look at the makeup of the owners and coaches of these teams, you will see a completely different picture. Those calling the shots, those making the money and those covering the stories are predominately white. On this episode of the Global Village, minority ownership issues and race and hiring in sports are discussed. From the Series:The Global Village
