Google May Be Heading to Singapore
Recent reports indicate that Google gets ready to set up shop in Singapore. Google has yet to confirm the reports, but it seems that Google plans on building the first research and development center in Southeast Asia. Google’s director of Southeast Asian operations Richard Kimber told The Straits Times newspaper why Google would choose to develop a property there.Singapore was picked for “its very vibrant information, communications and technology space.”The Associated Press reported that Google’s public relations firm The Hoffman Agency Singapore did not deny the report. The firm “did not deny the report, but said Kimber’s comments were meant to recognize the city-state’s efforts to foster talent in the industry and did not address the possibility of setting up a research and development center here.”The Hoffman Agency looks forward to discovering many prospects.“Google’s continually exploring opportunities to further our investment in Singapore and around the world, which includes actively hiring local talent across various positions. We do not have anything to announce at this time.”The Sydney Morning Herald honored Singapore, and thought Google would fit in.“Southeast Asia’s most advanced economy and one of the most wired countries in Asia.” The Straits Times newspaper noted that Asia had three out of eight of Google’s research and development centers around the world.
