Dennis Fentie
Beyond Politics Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie is Catherine Clark’s guest on this special edition of Beyond Politics. Born in Edmonton, Fentie was an only child raised by a single mother who was fiercely independent. Dennis developed his own bold streak that led him to leave home at 14. He worked odd jobs at first, finding it hard to convince employers to hire someone underage. He drifted and fell in with the wrong crowd – and spent time in jail for drug trafficking. Upon his release, and fully pardoned, Dennis wasted no time in taking advantage of his second chance, running a successful company (Francis Trucking) in Watson Lake, Yukon. Dennis first ran for the Legislative Assembly office in 1996 and won as a New Democrat. Six years later he was premier, representing the Yukon Party. He’s now the second longest-serving premier in Canada. An outdoors lover and an avid motorcycle enthusiast, Dennis has one daughter from a previous marriage and several children and grandchildren with his current spouse, Lorraine.
