The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for the commander chosen to replace General David Petraeus in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General John Allen. Vice Admiral William McRaven, the commander of the Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden, was nominated to lead the Special Operations Command, and General James Thurman was picked to lead U.S. forces in Korea.
