１７８秋田市新屋大森山動物園
ニホンザル 体長は50-60cmくらい。最大では全長1.3mに達する。オスの平均体重は12-15?s、メスは8-13?s。雌より雄の方がやや大きい。同じ仲間にくらべて、オスが8-12?p、メスが7-10?pほどと、尾が短いのが特徴である。また、顔と尻が赤い。手足の皮膚はむしろ黒い。日本ではサルの顔や尻が赤いのは当たり前だと思われているが、これは実際にはニホンザルの特徴である。歯はヒトと同じで乳歯が20本、永久歯が32本。
