Spiritual gifts in this passage are also called "sign gifts" from Mark 16:17-18. We are inundated today with television programs, radio programs and books that claim that the miraculous sign gifts that occurred during the times of the apostles are still occurring today. There are offers of miracle spring water that produce divine financial miracles, prayer cloths that are the pathway to healing, crusades where people who have infirmities are touched by an evangelist and leap down the aisle supposedly free from their sickness or injury. Those who have these gifts are empowered by God, walking in the Spirit, and by virtue of the evidence are seen as "the haves." Those who are not operating in daily miracles and God's voice speaking to them are the "have nots." What is the truth about the sign gifts? Why were they given? Do they operate today?
