2008年5月12日一場四川大地震，不但造成了巨大傷亡，災後肢體殘障人士約有五萬人之多，他們面對如何重返社會以及從新工作和生活之極為嚴峻的問題。香港紅十字會董事會成員高永文醫生聯同幾位復康及假肢相關之專業人士，願意花上幾年的時間，到偏遠的四川，為當地復康及假肢中心提供服務，陪災民一步一步走出困局，給災民送上溫暖可靠的承諾。
