Egypt loses dozens of hectares farmland to construction
Since pharaonic times, the Egyptian population has been concentrated around the river Nile. Today, however, this is problematic. Urban expansion consumes more and more fertile terrain. Every day, Egypt loses dozens of hectares of farmland to construction. Why? It’s simple, farmers can make more money from building than farming. David Sims, Urbanist "Its really logical to build on agricultural land, or even more, to sell land. Its an evident choice seeing that the difference in value between farmland and land zoned for construction is massive. It can go for 10 to 20 times more."
