Digital Tipping Point: Lena Zuniga, Program Officer for Bellanet 06 (2004)
This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. In this segment, Lena Zuniga introduces herself for the record and tells us about the project that brought her to the conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where this footage was filmed. The Institute funding her research is the International Development Research Center in Canada. That institute wanted to know what is happening with free open source software in Latin America and the Caribbean; where they and others could best put their efforts to support free open source software in Latin America and the Caribbean; and how free open source software could become a tool for development in the region. (Lena summarizes her work in the preceding segments). The IDRC wanted to explore how the process of colloboration works in fee open source software projects; how common ownership of knowledge is organized; how the technology is used to foster regional independence; and what were the best uses of funding to support projects in the region.
