２９日に都内で行われた少年野球大会の始球式で、東京・石原知事が元プロ野球投手・村田兆治さんと対戦、衰えを感じさせない村田さんの直球を空振りした。捕手は古田敦也さん、打撃コーチは王貞治さんが務めた。王さんが子供たちにアドバイスする場面も。
