Green algae, huge problem in the bay of Saint Michel
In the bay of Saint Michel en Grve, green algae has long been a problem. Not only does it look bad, but gases given off by the algae are blamed for the death of a horse here last year. Now, a new experiment is underway to clear it up. At low tide, the water is to be rid of algae before high tide washes them ashore to decompose, releasing toxic hydrogen sulphates. Christian Deus, technician "The algae isn’t thick enough. It's not really getting up onto the belt. It's sticking."
