In Saarbrücken haben sich zahlreiche Forschungsinstitute zum Exzellenzcluster "Multimodal Computing and Interaction“ zusammengeschlossen, darunter die Universität des Saarlandes, das Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik und das Deutsche Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz. Die Wissenschaftler dort wollen Computer entwickeln, mit denen der Benutzer ähnlich kommunizieren kann wie mit einem Menschen.
