Valentine Virus Don’t OPEN your Email!!!
In the national headlines: its another controversial VETO, plus good news from the federal reserve, and details about an email scam you won’t want to miss! HI everyone! I'm Andrea Rene and welcome to get the daily.com. Let's take a look at some top national stories.   Yesterday Congress voted to ban the CIA from using waterboarding, a known form of torture on prisoners, along with other interrogation techniques. Despite the strong possiblity of a White House veto, the Senate stood with the House on the issue that has been hotly debated in recent months. However, white house spokesman Tony Fratto said, "parts of the bill are inconsistent with the effective conduct of intelligence gathering," and even presidental candidate John McCain voted against it. Stating that the bill requires the CIA to adhere to standards published in the Army Field Manual, which prohibits certain forms of interrogation on prisoners including waterboarding, forced nudity, mock executions, and electric shock. While the President doesn't outwardly condone torture, he has been criticized for not taking a strong enough stance on the issue. Though congress is expecting a veto, representatives call the vote, momentus. There is some good news from Washington. Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke has said more interest rates cuts are likely coming next month. In addition to the $168 billion dollar economic stimulus package, the fed chief said more help is needed to save the U.S. from a recession. The area hit the hardest, the housing market. The rate cut would help homeowners lower the mortgage payments and hopefully prevent thousands more from entering the growing foreclosure market. I'll have more details as they become available.
