Cinema: “Peepli Live” and the Fate of India’s Farmers
Indian director Anusha Rizvi says the problems affecting rural India are played out all over the world. Indian farmers do everything they can to make ends meet but globalization and world market prices limit their ability to make a living. Rizvi’s film “Peepli Live” tells the story of two Indian farmers who face crippling debt. It is fiction but based on reality. Over the past few years, thousands of Indian farmers have taken their own lives.
