Engineers in the Wood
See steam engineers drive steam locomotives and diesels through the woods of Holliston, Massachusetts. 1/8 to 1/16 scale engines and trains on display and available for rides on a 1-mile meandering track 7.25 inches wide, complete with tunnels, bridges, switches, water tanks, and more. The MIT Club of Boston was invited to attend this three-day annual event last weekend. The smell of smoke, hot oil, and steam, the sound of chuga chuga chuga, chuga, and a variety of train whistles. Lots of maintenance work to do and observe, and plenty of steam tables and turntables. Lots of historical and technical talk, and humor as well, August 2010.
