HistoryCast 009 - Major Mordecai Myers: Jewish-American Hero
Reporter Bill Buell talks with Neil Yetwin, Social Studies teacher at Schenectady High School, about his research into the life of Major Mordecai Myers, American war hero and the first - and only - Jewish mayor of the City of Schenectady.  Neil Yetwin has taught social studies at Schenectady High School for nearly 30 years. He has lectured extensively on local history at libraries, schools, historical societies, places of worship and veterans organizations throughout the Capital District. The author of over 100 articles, Yetwin received the Louis B. Yavner Award of the New York State Regents for Excellence in Teaching the Holocaust and Civil Rights in 1989, and was named "Outstanding Citizen of Schenectady" by the Schenectady City Council in 2005 for his research and presentations on local history. Mr. Yetwin appears on the Schenectady County HistoryCast courtesy of the NYS Council of the Humanities' "Speakers in the Humanities" series.
