TEDxMarin - Olivia Ma - Why Do We Share?
Olivia Ma is YouTube’s News Manager. She develops news-related products and programming initiatives and works closely with both news organizations and citizen reporters using the site to share news video from around the world. She also manages YouTube's news editorial strategy through CitizenTube, YouTube's breaking news channel, and oversees the site's coverage of major global news events such as the 2011 protests in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, the 2009 Iranian elections and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Prior to joining YouTube, Olivia was a product manager for Plum, a social media-sharing website, and ran Current, a national student news magazine published in partnership with Newsweek. Olivia graduated from Harvard University with a degree in History and Literature. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Center for Public Integrity. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
