NARC - levels 1-3
NARC was released for the arcades in 1988 by Williams Electronics. It was designed by Eugene Jarvis, the same designer of the 1982 hit Robotron. Jarvis would later help in the design of Smash TV in 1990 with drew influences from both Robotron and NARC. NARC was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) along with several other home computer systems. NARC was notable for use of digitized graphics which would be later seen in the Mortal Kombat series. Also, NARC was a fairly violent game for its time. Jack Thompson, where were you?!! The storyline follows two characters, Max Force and Hit Man, as they are sent on a mission to apprehend Mr. Big, head of an underground drug trafficking organization. The object of the game is to clear each level by either killing or apprehending (BUSTED) enemies. Bonus points are awarded when drugs or money is picked up throughout the level. In my honest opinion, this game had to been designed for the sure purpose to exploit children out of their lunch money. This game is damn near impossible to beat without dying at least 50 times. Towards the end of the game, there are times where the entire screen is filled with the enemy's bullets. The controls are clumsy and unresponsive at times. The graphics may have been groundbreaking along with the use of violence but the gameplay sure as hell isn't. I feel this was the precursor to the use of keys on every FPS during the 1990's.
