Although the first wave of reforms had engulfed rural villages, they are also the ones lagging behind in the nation’s development. 30 years of reform made them relatively comfortable but affluence remains elusive. Traversing many provinces, our reporting crew visited a village in Anhui, a model of reform yet not reaping the results. In the mountains of Guizhou, villagers have just begun to savour the sweetness of reform. Wenzhou saw the urbanisation of villages, farmers get rich, only by leaving the land. Now there're new "land reforms" and "village financing", what more changes are in store?
