In 1994, Stanford President Gerhard Casper announced a highly selective scholarship program to bring outstanding students from Asia to Stanford for graduate study across a wide variety of disciplines. The mission: to bring together future leaders of Asia and the Pacific Rim, creating a nucleus of future professionals and experts forging bonds across national boundaries through a variety of common activities.
