Barclays’ return-on-equity challenge
The first of the UK banks to report, Barclays posted an improvement by a third in its 2010 profits, seeing some reduction in bank debts, but facing tighter regulation.  Patrick Jenkins, FT’s banking editor, assesses new chief executive Bob Diamond's chances of improving significantly on last year's 7% return on equity.
