Moving Images: Jaki Irvine
Moving Images is a collaboration between Tate Modern and Research at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design bringing to London major figures working in or on film and video to explore contemporary issues around these media.14.03.2002 Overheard conversations and human incidents, casually observed, often provide the starting point for Jaki Irvine’s work. She weaves these real events with fictitious narratives to produce haunting, disarmingly understated Super-8 and 16mm films. Typically, her films exploit discontinuities between moving image, musical score and narrator to undermine any sense of linear narrative. Born in Dublin in 1966, Irvine now lives and works in London. She was in conversation with Michael Newman of Central Saint Martins.
