Scrums Liberal MPs Gerry Byrne and Lise Zarac criticized the government’s policy that affects low-income seniors. Some seniors could be denied Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) pension payments because of the policy to count Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF) withdrawals as income. NDP House Leader Libby Davies also commented on the policy. Bloc Québécois House Leader Pierre Paquette spoke to reporters about Quebec’s demands for $2.2-billion in federal compensation for harmonizing its sales tax. Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla commented on the negative impact that the cancellation of the mandatory long-form census has on ethnic communities.
