Proposal replaces Sunport TSA with contractor
Pat-downs and body scans; a lot of travelers wish they could do without them. An Albuquerque city councilor thinks the way to do it is by replacing the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at the Sunport with private contractors. While the option is generally not known by the public, cities have the option of using private security contractors at airports instead of the TSA. Sixteen out of roughly 400 airports around the country don’t use TSA security and San Francisco and Kansas City are the only large airports that have opted out. But the question remains: If the Sunport drops TSA's services will it really change anything for you when you get screened? Some travelers like the idea of life without the TSA, including Margene Jackson, who was given a pat-down in Oregon on her way in to Albuquerque. "That would be fine versus the government running it," she says. "We need to get out of more government running everything in our lives." Her husband Larry agrees. "I think it would be run much better. There's nothing I know of in our country that is run by the government efficiently." Other travelers told KOB that they are OK with the TSA staying.
