The Salton Sea sits tucked away in a hot desert valley in the south east corner of California. It was created in 1905 when an out of control irrigation project re-routed the Colorado River into the desert for 18 months. The area soon bloomed and became a famed resort destination, rivaling nearby Palm Springs. But today, the place is a virtual ghost town, as the Sea suffers from a host of environmental problems due to its very high salt content. In this pod, we'll look at how, despite 6 feet of evaporation a year, the Salton Sea is maintained and what the future holds for the Salton Sea.
