David Rathman
Minneapolis-based David Rathman received his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions, including The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at Galerie Weiland, Berlin, and Where the Boys Are at Clementine Gallery, New York. Rathman is the recipient of awards from the Jerome, Bush and McKnight Foundations. In this MN Original segment, Rathman prepares for shows in Los Angeles? Mark Moore Gallery and in Minneapolis? Weinstein Gallery. His watercolor paintings of stereotypically masculine subjects like cowboys, race cars, sports insignias and rock and roll album covers evoke a playful dialogue on subjects drawn from the American psyche. Snippets of overheard conversation, movie dialogue and lists he finds are all incorporated into his work, owing to his love of books, writing and wordplay. One painting for the Los Angeles show combines whiskey and cowboys. The artist asks, ?What more could you want?? www.larissagoldston.com/artists/davidrathman
