firefighters are now filling sandbags to keep potential floodwaters away from homes. joe bartels talked with people who lived through the ruidoso floods three years ago. he’s live in roswell ... joe? people i spoke with say they are living on pins and needles watching more rain fall again today. flash floods ripped through an r-v park yesterday and people say sand bags might not be enough to keep the river away. more rain is exactly what people living in the river ranc r-v park off of highway 70 do not want. "i think it could have been a lot worse yesterday than it was, had we got more rain through the afternoon and night." lincoln county crews were busy today installing cement barriers inside river ranch--- along the banks of the rio ruidoso. people living in the park just east of ruidoso downs say after the flood in 2008-- more should have been done to keep the river from getting out of its banks. "i feel like things could have been done after that flood, that everyone is rushing to do now, they are putting up barriers and i feel like these barriers should have been in place already." over in ruidoso-- fire fighters are filling hundreds of bags with a gravel mixture which holds up better. "each shift has offered to do 100 bags per day, our goal is to have 200 bags on the ground." the ruidoso chief says peoplwho have flood concerns should act now by sand bagging their property. "we've learned in ruidoso to be very proactive." the operation is mobile and people can pick up a maximum of 2o bags with a proper drivers license. the chief they are cracking down on people who are picking up the bags to use the gravel inside to landscape their yards. officials say they will continue to provide bags until the flooding threat subsides. the bags are available for ruidoso residents at the main station on sudderth drive.
