Denmark, which hosts a key conference on climate change in December, wants to show that the choice of Copenhagen for a possible landmark treaty is no coincidence, illustrating that Denmark is at the forefront of sustainable policies. The government asked a group of Danish architects to come up with sustainable concepts using hundreds of empty vegetable crates. The result is being shown in Paris. The Danes invented the Lego. So it’s no surprise that Danish architects have found a way to build models for the future using only a couple of thousand of boxes. Child's play? Not really. Caroline Nagel, Architect, "It was a bit difficult. When we tried to play around a little with these shapes we always build models and we had foam and we tried stacking little boxes... that was much easier than when you have a surface that doesn't have the same size everywhere." For the architects working on this Paris exhibition the boxes show what sustainable development is all about. They're simple, cheap and recycled. And the design is flawless. Claus Hermansen, Architect, " This box is fitted perfectly to do what it has to do- to carry vegetables. You can say that they only put exactly the amount of resources into that box that it needs."
