MTV Posts Sixth Consecutive Quarter of Ratings Increases
MTV, a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIA.B) reported its sixth consecutive quarter of growth, with ratings up 6% over the last year period.The network delivered four of the top 15 original cable series in the second quarter of 2011, as well as scoring four of the top five cable telecasts in the quarter.MTV’s top original cable series of the quarter were: "American's Best Dance Crew," the No. 10 cable show, "Real World: Las Vegas" was 11th, "16 and Pregnant" was No. 12, and "Teen Wolf," which came in at number 13.Gains in ratings for the second quarter were driven by a 53% jump in MTV's "Ten Spot," the network's branded Monday-Thursday10pm-to-11pm time slot. Established franchises "America's Best Dance Crew," "Real World: Las Vegas" and "Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory" all marked double digit ratings increases over their prior seasons.Shares of Viacom, the parent company of MTV, are trading up 0.34% at $50.39.
