Age-related cataracts causes a clouding of the lens in the eye that can affect vision, but cataract surgery helps restore vision. In this procedure the lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) or an artificial plastic lens. This procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure and patients recover quickly and often decide to have the second eye done within a month of the first surgery. Patients are urged to check their eyes to also identify problems like glaucoma or diabetes of the eyes or macular degeneration.
