Digital Tipping Point: Assignment Zero reporter interiews the DTP producer 10 (2007)
This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. This particular series of video segments features an interview between Assignment Zero community reporter Michael Shaw and DTP producer Christian Einfeldt. We have it on good information that the DTP producer was underslept at the time of this interview, and that is apparent in the, um, "wide-ranging" answers given by Christian. The interview covers a history of Free Open Source Software; the influences of Richard Stallman’s early family life on his desire to create a Free Software community; Richard Stallman's view of the differences between Free Software and "Open Source" Software; and a brief history behind the creation of the term, "Open Source." The series concludes with Christian's recounting of what he calls his "Chad Smith" story, a story about an active member of the OpenOffice.org community who did not know who Richard Stallman was, and the signficance of the fact that this active member of the Free Open Source Software community was not familiar with the name of the founder of the Free Software movement.
