World Music: Les Charbonniers de l’Enfer, "Les Turlutes"
(Canada) Once again, The Little Coal Miners from Hell show us how much you can stir up a crowd without plugging in. "Les Turlutes" is a kind of Quebecois mouth music, that is, scatting that imitates an instrument. (In Celtic music that might be a bagpipe or a fiddle.) Mouth music developed out of the need to dance or work when no instruments were to hand. The boys really get into it, and the stomping solos alone are worth the price of admission. This performance is from a 2005 performance at La Tulipe a concert venue in Montreal.
