Scrums The Conservatives announced in the House today that ministerial staffers would no longer be allowed to testify at parliamentary committees. The government said that ministers would now be held accountable for the actions of their staff and that testifying at committees is a ministerial responsibility. NDP Leader Jack Layton, Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe and Liberal MP Bob Rae discussed the government’s new policy.   Other topics discussed were reports that the Conservatives ignored CIDA’s advice on including abortion as part of the G8 maternal health initiative, the growing security costs for the G8 and G20 summits, and the refusal of MPs to allow the Auditor General to audit their expenses. NDP MP Joe Comartin also spoke to reporters about why he feels the AG should not audit parliamentary expenses. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews commented on the situation in Jamaica. The death toll for civilians is rising as police search for Christopher "Dudus" Coke, an alleged drug lord who is wanted in the U.S.
