Casanova
This excerpt from a longer piece I was commissioned to create in 2007 for integration into the production of NINE, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical of the 1982 Broadway season, based on Federico Fellini’s 81/2. In this piece I incorporated footage of the live stage actors into the mix. The book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston focuses on film director Guido Contini savoring his most recent and greatest success, but facing his fortieth birthday and a midlife crisis blocks his creative impulses and entangles him in a web of romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice. The film is the play in miniature as seen in a hallucinatory dream-state: The story of Guido, playing Casanova, in which the Venetian adventurer, author, philanderer consorts with European aristocracy, deaconry, and intelligentsia with equal relish. Fellini on an acid trip. I’ve reset this excerpt to the fabulous music of James Lauer. At some point I'll do some badly needed color correcting.
