Thrill The World.
IT’S close to midnight and something evil's lurking in a Bolton leisure centre . . . but don't worry - it's just 100 dancing zombies helping to break a world record. The dancers, wearing ripped T-shirts covered in fake blood, were among thousands across the world who performed Michael Jackson's classic Thriller dance. The `undead' joined forces to smash a Guinness world record for the big More..gest simultaneous dance of the 1983 classic. The 112 novices and professionals started `dead' on the floor at Bolton's Hayward Leisure Centre on Saturday. A countdown was given via a global conference call and at 7pm the zombies began to stir. They launched into a jerky dance routine including `claw swings', hip swivels and foot stomps. Five minutes and 58 seconds later, the dancers celebrated in expectation of smashing the record. Nearly 4,000 people took part worldwide. Organiser of the Bolton event, Steve Clegg, 54, said: "It was very hectic, but next year will be bigger, better - and bloodier!" The record was launched by a Canadian choreographer and last year 1,722 dancers in 52 cities across five continents smashed that record. The Bolton dancers, hosted by Bolton Artistic Roller Skating Club, expect to claim their official part in the title when the figures are verified.
