Runner for All Seasons: Amputee Ultramarathoner Amy Palmiero-Winters
Amy Palmiero-Winters of Hicksville, New York, is a long-distance runner whose awards and trophies are hard to count. This year alone, she has won or placed in several big races, some more than 200 kilometers, and lasting more than 24 hours — and she was named the top amateur athlete in America by the Amateur Athletic Union. Her achievements are all the more striking, given that Palmiero-Winters has what most would consider a major disability -- though she herself would disagree with that. Carolyn Weaver has more.
