Funds for US Program to Help Women, Children in Jeopardy
Political pressure is mounting in the United States to reduce the federal deficit. Among federal programs facing cuts is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children known as WIC. Legislation recently approved in the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives reduces WIC funding by roughly 11 per cent. Anti-hunger advocates say this means hundreds of thousands of women and children could be turned away. VOA’s Laurel Bowman has more.
