Finance Minister Jim Flaherty spoke to reporters about the decision of the governments of Canada and Ontario to sell 20% of their common GM shares in the automaker’s initial public offering. Flaherty also spoke briefly about the recovered Bank of Canada documents that had been stolen from governonr Mark Carney’s car. Industry Minister Tony Clement responded to questions about the proposed copright levy for digital recording devices such as MP3 players. Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe commented on the Bloc MP Serge Ménard’s allegations of illegal campaign donations. Ménard alleges that Laval mayor Gilles Vaillancourt had offered him an illegal cash donation in 1993, when Ménard was running as a Parti Québécois candidate. Conservative MP Steven Blaney questioned why it took Ménard 17 years to come forward with the allegations.
