Scrums Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York today as part of Canada’s bid for one of two temporary seats on the Security Council. Canada is competing with Germany and Portugal for the two-year seats. Liberal Foreign Affairs critic Bob Rae, NDP leader Jack Layton and NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar spoke to reporters about Canada’s chances for a seat.The debate over the long-gun registry continued, as Rae, Layton and Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe commented on the aftermath of the registry’s vote.
