Bryon Wilfert
Beyond Politics Liberal MP Bryon Wilfert grew up an only child in what was, at the time, the Toronto suburb of Scarborough. At the age of 10, Bryon developed a keen interest in Asian history and politics after watching the film "55 Days at Peking" with Ava Gardner and Charlton Heston. After earning a master’s degree in Chinese politics, Bryon taught history at the private girls school Havergal College in Toronto. An unpleasant experience with his newly-built home compelled Bryon to join the local homeowners association, and it wasn't long afterwards that Bryon decided to run for municipal council. For 12 years, Bryon taught at Havergal and sat on council. In 1997, Bryon Wilfert moved to federal politics and was elected as the MP for Richmond Hill. He talks to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politics.
